Synopsis

Set in Lisbon in the early 1960s, Lavagante tells the story of a passionate encounter between Daniel, a doctor opposed to the Salazar regime, and Cecília, a young student. Their relationship unfolds in a country under constant surveillance, where censorship, political persecution and imprisonment are part of everyday life. As student unrest erupts in Lisbon, Daniel is arrested, leaving Cecília to confront the power of the political police. Their love becomes entangled with fear, betrayal and the contradictions of feminism and female emancipation under the dictatorship.
